(Vision vs. Medical) How do you know which insurance to file for your patient? This discussion starts at the front with the front office staff when they scan the patient’s insurance cards into the system. Explanation to the patient that they will receive a thorough examination and if there are medical problems, medical insurance can be filed for the patient. The chief complaint from the patient drives the coding for the examination. Training the staff to ask the correct questions during the work-up will give you the information about the problems the patient has been experiencing to be able to examine the patient and then code correctly. Course Objective: The staff receive training so that they understand the difference between medical insurance claims and vision insurance claims.
